Family on a mission - Antioch Network in Bolton

First published on: 21st October 2021

The Antioch Network is our Anglican church planting network looking to grow, nurture and serve in some of Greater Manchester's most deprived communities. We recently visited Top Oth' Brow Church, which is part of the Breightmet community in East Bolton, where Revd Ben Woodfield and his wife Amy gather in their home every week and host a service for local community members. The Antioch Network was officially launched in 2018 by the Bishop of Manchester. After serving for several years at Oldhams Church, a team now looks to pioneer a new congregation that will be led by clergy with the support of lay leaders. As a buildingless church, the new East Bolton plant gathers every Monday for food and worship with the goal of being a family on a mission. Antioch were invited by St James, Breightmet and Christ Church, Harwood, who are supporting and collaborating with the new initiative to encourage and nurture its growth.

We produced a video that tells the story so far of the recently launched Top Oth' Brow Church and the success of the Antioch Network. Along with an interview with Revd Ben Woodfield, we were delighted to meet with the recently ordained Revd Lee Higson, who has taken over as curate of Oldhams Church after serving his placement there. We also heard from members of the church youth on their thoughts around the new plant, along with an inspiring message from Shaun Kelly, a lay leader that will be joining Revd Ben in serving the Top Oth' Brow community.
