Revitalisation in Bury

First published on: 13th October 2021

On Monday 27 September, Revd Simon Watkinson was licensed as the new Pioneer Minister at St Peter's, Bury. The evening was celebrated by community and congregation members, from St Peter's and the local area, as well as members from Simon's previous church, St Philips, Chapel Street. St Philip's, based in the heart of Salford, is one of the diocesan resourcing/hub churches, primarily aimed at young adults, with mission at its heart and equipped with the goal of resourcing other churches in the area. Revd Simon's move marks the first revitalisation from a resource church, where an established church has sent a leader to inject fresh energy into another parish that is struggling. This revitalisation comes as the diocese looks to help inherited churches refresh, as outlined in our diocesan five-year vision for growth.

Meet Revd Simon Watkinson

We met with Revd Simon Watkinson before the licensing commenced as he shared a few words about his vision for St Peter's Bury.

Barbara Grosvenor, PCC member at St Peter's, Bury

Joining the licensing was congregation and PCC member, Barbara Grosvenor, who shared her thoughts on the revitalisation. Barbara, an integral member of the St Peter's congregation shared an anxiousness around the new move but remained hopeful with an optimistic spirit that it will bring the right change to the church.
