What will mission communities look like?

First published on: 27th July 2021

The mission community proposals, first outlined in October 2020, outline radical and exciting changes to our approach to local ministry in the Diocese of Manchester. At their heart, they are about us finding new ways of working together and inspiring each other. The proposals have been updated in the light of an extensive consultation and feedback, and include more information on roles and responsibilities and a broad timetable for the rest of 2021.

Over the coming months, the newly appointed Area Deans and Lay Chairs will be having further conversations at the local level about our mission community proposals. We have developed a short video, Mission Communities in Practice, to help these conversations.

Alongside this, there is a handout to help the people who attend the churches in our diocese explore these proposals and aid conversations about what they will mean for them. We have produced two version, one for reading on screen and a printable version that prints as a booklet.

Mission communities will enable us to build on all that is already good and fruitful in our churches, and also help us to be dynamic and focused on the future.
