On Saturday 22nd July, church members from South Manchester’s Mission Community 2 joined together in a four-hour prayer walk between their ten parishes. At each stop, the walkers prayed with the local congregation for the life of their church and the needs of their local communities.
The walk started at St. Werburgh’s, Chorlton and continued on to St. Hilda’s Old Trafford, St. John’s Old Trafford, St. Bride’s Old Trafford, St. Margaret’s Whalley Range, St. Edmund’s Whalley Range, St. James’ Moss Side, Christ Church Moss Side, and Holy Trinity Platt Rusholme, before finishing at St. Crispin’s Fallowfield.
Wine, soft drinks and refreshments were enjoyed by all at the last stop, courtesy of local parishioners. Despite the heavy rain, many people joined the walk from all the different parishes, and there was great fellowship and a renewed appreciation of the blessings and challenges within each parish and community.
Mission Community Leader, Revd Peter Matthews, commented: “It was great to have quite a few from so many different churches join in and to hear people finding out about one another, their church's life and ministry and being able to hear what we can pray for the different churches.”
