Preparations are now well underway for this weekend's ordination services. This Petertide, 32 people are being ordained in the diocese - 18 as deacons and 14 as priests.
Last night, on Thursday 2nd May, Manchester Cathedral hosted a service to celebrate 30 years since the first ordination of women priests. It was a wonderful opportunity for colleagues and friends to get together to reflect on all that has been achieved over the last 30 years.
A special service to mark the retirement of the Ven David Sharples, Archdeacon of Rochdale, was held in Manchester Cathedral this week. Hundreds of friends, colleagues, and clergy gathered for an opportunity to celebrate David's long and distinguished ministry and to bid him a fond farewell.
The annual ecumenical prayer initiative 'Thy Kingdom Come' (TKC), led by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, makes its return next month. This worldwide prayer movement, which runs from Ascension Day until Pentecost, aims to unite Christians as they pray together for more people to know Jesus.
On Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday, clergy and licensed lay leaders from across the diocese gathered together at Manchester Cathedral to share the Eucharist, renew their vows, and bless the sacred oils
The Diocese of Manchester has had a link with the Diocese of Lahore, Church of Pakistan, for over 30 years. This link has flourished through visits to each diocese, together with an active linking of schools in both areas.
On 5th November, we celebrated the ordination of four new priests and one deacon in our link diocese of Lahore in Pakistan. Among them was Revd Dave Mackie, who has been working with the church in Pakistan for the last eight years.
Safeguarding Sunday is taking place on Sunday 19th November 2023, and churches in the diocese are encouraged to use their regular Sunday service to explore together what safer places look like, and to thank all those working behind the scenes to make our churches safer for all.
