Thank You Canon Phillip Blinkhorn: Reflections on His Time as Chair of the DBF

First published on: 24th October 2024

Last week marked the conclusion of Canon Phillip Blinkhorn's tenure as Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance.

Phillip has dedicated nearly five decades to serving the diocese, first joining Diocesan Synod in 1976 before becoming Chair of the DBF in 2012. At Synod, Bishop David presented Phillip with a gift as a token of the diocese’s appreciation and said:

"It's been a real pleasure working with Canon Phillip over the past eleven years. He has approached our work with realistic optimism, consistently maintaining hope regardless of the challenges we have faced. This sense of hope, a Christian virtue, has guided his service while also acknowledging our financial realities. I have appreciated that Phillip has always framed his work within the context of our mission, remaining dedicated to supporting our vision for the diocese."

Addressing Synod, Phillip responded:

"I have enjoyed my time as Chair of the DBF and have greatly appreciated the support from the staff at St John's House, especially the current Diocesan Secretary and her predecessors. Over the past twelve years, our diocese has undergone significant change and we have made remarkable progress. It has been a privilege to be part of that journey. I have discovered a sense of vocation in leading the Diocesan Board of Finance and have valued the opportunity to contribute to our diocese. Thank you to Synod for your continued support."
