Mission community joins together in prayer

Today, on the feast of Saint Peter and Paul, members from each of the eight churches in Radcliffe and Whitefield Mission Community took part in a prayer walk around their local area. The day began with morning prayer in each of the churches and then, the group walked from church to church praying for individuals they met along the way and for the areas they walked through. The group of almost 40 people then shared the Eucharist together at St Thomas and St John’s, Radcliffe followed by refreshments. The service was led by Bishop Mark Davies, who preached on St Peter and St Paul and our personal role in sharing the good news and peace of Jesus Christ.

This was the second year the prayer walk has been held and was organised by Mission Community Leader, Revd Canon Donna Williams. Many of those attending meet regularly to pray together via zoom, and so meeting in person at events like this is a wonderful way to strengthen connections and friendships across the mission community. Amongst those taking part in the prayer walk was Julie Macauley, who is shortly to be commissioned by the Church Army and runs Emmanuel at St Phillips Community Centre.

Led by Bishop Mark and Revd Donna, the group then travelled around Radcliffe town centre, popping into shops, libraries and community centres. They spoke to local people and prayed for the sick, for local businesses and for those running essential services in the town.

Leaving behind these beautiful crosses, handstitched by the craft club at St Andrew’s Church Radcliffe, prayer books and a reminder of the love of Jesus with those they met. It was not only a great way to reach out to the local community, but also a memorable way to draw closer as a mission community.
