Archdeacon Jean Burgess to take up new role as Archdeacon of Bournemouth

Archdeacon Jean Burgess has announced that she is leaving the Diocese of Manchester to take up a new role as Archdeacon of Bournemouth. Having spent five years as Archdeacon of Bolton and Salford, providing leadership and support for our transformation programme, Jean will be a great loss to the diocese.

Jean said: “I have loved my time in Manchester as Archdeacon of Bolton and Salford. I was welcomed with great warmth and care and I will be sad to say goodbye. However, God has a habit of turning up and changing your direction when you least expect it and I hope you will hold me and Graham in your prayers as we move to Winchester Diocese. I will be taking up the role of Archdeacon of Bournemouth and I am excited to see what God will do in this new season.”

The Right Reverend Prof. David Walker, Bishop of Manchester said, "Archdeacon Jean has made an enormous contribution to our life and mission in the Diocese of Manchester over these last few years. Her passion to enable people to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ has encouraged us all in mission. We are hugely grateful for the wisdom and energy she has put into helping us renew our inherited ways of working. Her leadership has created fresh opportunities for clergy and lay people to work together for God’s Kingdom. We hope and pray that her ministry will be equally fruitful in the Diocese of Winchester.

Jean will continue in her role as Archdeacon until the end of May. We wish Jean and her husband Graham the very best as they prepare for the move.
