Transitioning from primary to secondary school can be a daunting experience for many children. To help them navigate this significant milestone, we are excited to announce the launch of ‘Beyond’, a resource to equip Year 6 pupils with the tools they need to embark on this next chapter with confidence.
At the heart of Beyond is the line from Proverbs 22:6: ‘Train a child when they are young and when they are old they will not depart from it.’ The hope is that the resource instils children with confidence and resilience which will stay with them for many years to come.
Beyond is split into four easy-to-use sessions. These are:
‘Foundations’ and ‘Building’, helping children to reflect and build upon the spiritual principles they've formed throughout their primary school years.
‘Hopeful, Brave, and Kind’, nurturing emotional well-being which is crucial to navigating the challenges of transitioning to secondary school. This session is tailored for school and church children's/youth group settings, delivering a holistic approach to supporting young minds and hearts.
‘Big Step Forwards’ draws upon the wisdom of Year 7 students, who share their first-hand experiences and insights to help Year 6 pupils better prepare for the exciting, yet sometimes daunting, move to secondary school.
In addition to these four sessions, Beyond also includes a plan for a leavers' service, which provides a meaningful opportunity for children to mark this significant milestone in their educational journey.
The entire ‘Beyond’ resource, which includes worksheet printouts and PowerPoint slides to ensure accessibility and ease of use for clergy, school staff, children, and youth leaders, is available to download for free here: Beyond Resource Pack 2024.
