Jamie Mackenzie is brilliant at supporting and encouraging others, helping them to navigate challenges and discern a way forward. He brings these talents to his work every day in his role as Lay Ministry Officer for Manchester Diocese, and is now using these talents as a Group Facilitator for Andy's Man Club (AMC).
Explaining more about this new role, Jamie said:
"I started attending my local Andy’s Man Club in the summer when I was struggling with my mental health. Established in 2016, AMC is now a nationwide men’s mental health charity that aims to provide men with a safe space where they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgment.
"I was incredibly nervous when I first went along but the lads soon made me feel welcome. I was amazed to see so many men there and even more amazed when they began opening up and sharing with each other!
"It’s absolutely heart-breaking when you consider that on average, one man in the UK takes his own life every two hours. It’s often said that a key factor of this is that men don’t talk. That’s why Andy’s Man Club was born, to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and to help men through the power of conversation.
"I was really benefitting from going to AMC and felt honoured when they recently asked me to train as a Group Facilitator. I now not only get to receive support but also get to give it to others through facilitating the weekly discussion groups and welcoming newcomers.’
