Last month, a group of Readers went out for a meal to celebrate completing both their college Reader training and the diocesan Post-Licensing Reader Training programme.
Revd Neil Whitaker, who has been leading and overseeing the group in their Post-Licensing Training, said:
“It’s been a real joy and a blessing working with these fantastic Readers over the past few years, alongside a wonderful group of talented tutors. This particular cohort had considerable disruption during their initial training, so we wanted to design a post-licensing course that was really practical, interactive and engaging, helping to prepare the Readers for practical ministry. It’s been great getting to know the group and what better way to mark their success than to have a meal out together!”
In recent years, the Reader Training Course has become much more streamlined and accessible for people of all ages, backgrounds and academic experience. There are currently 10 people training for Reader Ministry at Emmanuel Theological College, with 11 to become licensed as Readers this summer. Reader Ministry is a changing ministry which allows people to develop their gifts and abilities in lots of creative ways, and for a growing number of people, it is a natural follow-on from the ALM course.
