Congratulations to the six new Honorary Canons appointed to Manchester Cathedral in recognition of their faithful service to the diocese and wider Church.

It is the custom for the title of Canon to be used from the moment of appointment.

Revd Canon Kate Burgess
Ordained in the Diocese of York in 2002, Revd Kate Burgess served her curacy and first incumbency in East Yorkshire before moving to the Diocese of Manchester in 2010 to be Priest in Charge and latterly Rector of St Matthew's Church in Stretford. Within the Diocese, she has served on Diocesan Synod, conducted Ministerial Development Reviews and has ongoing ministry within the Deaf Church.
She loves being a parish priest and being involved in many aspects of the local community. She also enjoys gardening, baking and taking slow walks with her elderly greyhound.
Revd Canon Omid Moludy
The Revd Omid Moludy, born in Iran, is a dedicated minister and scholar in the Christian community. In 2004, he founded St Aphrahat the Persian Church, where he continues to serve as Minister. His scholarly contributions include serving as an editor for the New Testament texts for the Catholic Church, excluding the four Gospels.
In 2014, Revd Moludy joined the Church of England as a Priest for Cultural Diversity, and his efforts in promoting inclusivity and diversity have been significant. In 2017, he was appointed to the Archbishops' College of Evangelists, recognising his exceptional evangelistic work.
His outstanding contributions were further acknowledged in 2021 when he received the Alphege Award for Evangelism and Witness from the Archbishop of Canterbury, highlighting his role in evangelism and discipleship among ethnically diverse communities.
Revd Moludy has a profound interest in medieval philosophy, particularly the works of Thomas Aquinas and Shihab al-Din Suhrawardi, reflecting his deep intellectual engagement, and philosophical and theological insight.
Revd Canon Janie Cronin
Revd Janie Cronin was ordained in the Diocese of Guildford in 2017. Following a curacy at St Saviour’s Church in Guildford, and then Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London, she moved to Rochdale to establish Nelson Street Resource Church where she is Minister.
She has been married to James for 36 years. Prior to her ordination, James and Janie were founders and directors of Ceroc Enterprise Ltd, a company they established in 1990. After this, they were part of church planting teams that established new churches in Auckland, New Zealand and Florida, USA.
Revd Canon Katy Cunliffe
Revd Katy Cunliffe has served all of her ordained ministry in the Diocese of Manchester. She is currently Vicar of Holy Trinity Shaw, St Mary High Crompton and St James Thornham, as well as recently being appointed Assistant Priest at East Crompton St James with St Saviour. She is a Mission Community Leader, a member of Diocesan Synod and an ambassador to the College of Archbishops' Evangelists, with a particular passion for catholic and sacramental evangelism. Having worked at the Cathedral as the Worship and Music Administrator prior to ordination, she is pleased to be renewing her acquaintance with the Cathedral as an Honorary Canon.
Revd Canon Dr Nicholas Bundock
Revd Dr Nicholas Bundock was ordained in the Diocese of Sheffield in 2002 and moved to Manchester in 2005, supported enthusiastically by his wife, Rachel, who grew up in South Manchester and was keen to return. Nick has been happily serving the Diocese of Manchester ever since!
Nick was Team Vicar and then Team Rector at St James and Emmanuel in Didsbury and has enjoyed setting up a new Church of England Primary School under the Free School programme and establishing an Academy Trust. He is also known for his work amongst and with the LGBTQ+ community and with Iranian Christians. Nick has a greenhouse full of cacti and a Cardigan Welsh Corgi called Bruce and was a molecular biologist prior to it all.
Canon Philip Geldard
Philip Geldard hails from County Durham and moved to Manchester to attend university. He now works as a Charge Nurse / Bed Manager at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
He has been a Governor at a number of Manchester Diocesan Schools and is currently Vice-Chair of Governors at The Aiming High CE Primary Federation. He has been actively involved in Diocesan Governance for over 20 years and a member of Bishop's Council for the past six years, in addition to being the Vice-Chair of Manchester Diocesan Board of Finance. He was also previously a member of General Synod (2015 - 2021).
Philip is a member of Christ Church, Moss Side, where he is also Churchwarden, and he is Treasurer at The Ascension Church, Hulme.
