The leadership team from St Nicholas Church Kingsway recently embraced new experiences by welcoming a class of Year 2 pupils for a day visit to church. Alison Mills (Church Warden and ALM) was involved in leading the day and explained that there was a little trepidation beforehand as it had been some time since the church had been able to supply children’s activities. However, with the help of good planning and plenty of enthusiasm from everyone involved, including Revd Augustine Tanner Ihm and Ollie Mills (Musical Director), the day went without a hitch.
“As a St Nick’s team, we were delighted with the outcome of the whole event!” says Revd Augustine. “We were so impressed with the interest and enthusiasm expressed by the staff and pupils. One of the greatest benefits of delivering an Experience Church Day is to encourage children to learn about our church and about the meaning of coming to church and joining worship. It is beneficial for the team delivering the event too as we also learned so much about planning activities for children. We will definitely be offering this opportunity to other local schools.”
The children learnt about many topics, including baptism, Jesus and Lake Galilee, prayer, Holy Communion, worship and the ways that Christians try to take God’s love out into the world. It was a busy day for the Year 2 class, who enjoyed their lunch in the circular upper meeting room and then partook in lots of Easter craft activities later in the afternoon.
The children also thoroughly enjoyed singing with Ollie and even asked for an encore just before they travelled back to school.
Many thanks to the St Nick’s team and for support from Zoe Kruger and Ruth Gent from the Transformation and Man Dio Growing Faith teams on the day.
