Vocations Day

First published on: 8th February 2024

On Saturday 3rd February, St Bride’s, Old Trafford hosted our annual Vocations Day. Created for anyone who is exploring God’s call in their life, attendees had the opportunity to hear from people involved in a wide variety of both lay and ordained ministries. Around 50 people attended, with a further 35 people speaking and sharing stories of their calling. The day started with a time of worship led by the team at St Bride’s, who we thank for their contribution to a successful day.

Throughout the event, people in different lay and ordained ministries shared their stories and people had time to visit tables and stalls representing different areas of ministry. These included: Youth and Children’s ministry, Reader ministry, Stipendiary and Self-Supporting ministry, Focal Leadership, Chaplaincy and Authorised Lay Ministry, amongst others. Representatives from the Church Army and Religious Orders also contributed to the day.

This year, a few ‘new’ areas of ministry were added, including Eco Champions and volunteering with Greater Together Manchester. The vocation of lay governance was also highlighted, by inviting Lay Chairs and Churchwardens to come and share their stories of being called to the role.

There was a welcoming, positive and friendly atmosphere, and we would like to thank all participants and speakers for being part of the day.

Everyone has a vocation and we believe that God has a plan for each of us. If you would like a conversation about vocation and calling, or further information about different areas of lay or ordained ministry, please contact Nick Smeeton, Director of Vocations at or Kim Morgan-Jones, Head of Lay Development and Discipleship at
