Representatives from our diocese recently attended the Hope-Filled Conversations conference, organised by the Archbishop of York Mission Enabler’s Team in partnership with Emmanuel Theological College, and funded by Racial Justice Unit.
The Revd Canon Dr Nicholas Bundock, Team Rector of St James and Emmanuel, Didsbury, has been elected as the new Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway. He will be consecrated and take up his new post later this year.
Bishop David spoke in the House of Lords yesterday in the debate on The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill also known as 'Martyn’s Law' in tribute to Martyn Hett who was killed alongside 21 others in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. He commended the work of those who have drafted the Bill and expressed his gratitude for the amendments that help to balance the needs of smaller venues.
As we look back on some of the highlights of 2024, we are reminded of the unity and faith that define our diocese. From celebrating milestones in ministry and community outreach to embracing new challenges and opportunities, the past year has been a testament to the commitment and dedication of all who contribute to life in the Diocese of Manchester. As we move into 2025, we carry forward the lessons and joy of this year, excited for opportunities to grow, serve, and continue our shared mission. Join us as we reflect on some of the accomplishments we achieved together as a diocese.
Bishop David shares his message for the Feast of Epiphany, reflecting on the challenges the Church faced in 2024 and reinforcing his commitment to safeguarding. He sets out his hopes for the years ahead that centre around our four themes of Growing Younger, Developing Missional Leaders, Church Planting and Revitalisation and Parish Renewal.
Since Christmas Day, we have had the pleasure of sharing a series of reflections from clergy and lay people from across our diocese. These reflections, thoughtfully filmed in front of the beautiful Christmas tree at Manchester Cathedral, were designed to capture the spirit and themes of the Christmas season. Each short film highlighted a unique aspect of this special time of year, offering messages of hope, joy, peace, and love to inspire and uplift our community.
