After the Diocesan Synod elections held earlier this year, the following clergy and laity have been elected to serve for the period 1 August 2021 – 31 July 2024.
The Bishop of Manchester, The Rt Revd Prof David Walker is delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Canon Karen Smeeton as the new Archdeacon of Rochdale. Karen takes on the role following the retirement of the Ven David Sharples earlier this year.
Congratulations to the six new Honorary Canons appointed to Manchester Cathedral in recognition of their faithful service to the diocese and wider Church. The diocese is delighted to announce the following appointments, who will act as a bridge between the diocese and Cathedral:
'Arty Annie’s' is a Creative Worship group based at St Anne’s School, Royton, which was set up as part of the Man Dio Growing Faith Programme.
St John’ House Bury, the central diocesan office, has been awarded an Eco Church Bronze Award for steps taken to help achieve net zero carbon.
Over 100 Authorised Lay Ministers (ALM) and special guests gathered last Saturday for the annual ALM Summer Conference.
The Bishop of Tampere in Finland, the Rt Revd Matti Repo attended General Synod last week to speak about the joint work of confirmation training between our diocese and Tampere in Finland, which is centred around summer camps for confirmands - and provides a training ground for junior leaders.
Never Forgotten is a baby loss support group based at St Mary the Virgin, Davyhulme. A three-year grant from Council for Social Aid allows Rachelle, who runs the group, to provide these sessions completely free of charge to attendees.
On Sunday, we celebrated Reader Ministry at Manchester Cathedral. Bishop Matthew Porter admitted ten new Readers and entitled four as Reader Emeritus.
This weekend, Manchester Cathedral hosted three ordination services as the diocese welcomed 14 new priests and 18 new deacons.
